Electric Barbecue! Cooking with an Electric BBQ Grill

Ready, get set, grill! Who can say no to barbecue fresh off the grill? Couple this with a great salad, some cold drinks and good company, you have a winning combination. The minus side is that grilling may be a hassle – you have to deal with starting the coal fire and making sure that the food’s being cooked evenly.  Well, with the electric BBQ grill, you can churn out these juicy burgers, steaks and barbeque with ease and enjoyment.

An electric BBQ grill makes grilling quick and easy. You don’t have to worry about cooking the food unevenly, since you can choose the temperature that will best work with the food. The grill is also safe to use indoors and outdoors.

If you live in a condo or apartment that forbids gas or coal-powered barbecue grills, the electric barbecue grill is your way to enjoy the taste of barbecue. If the grill is just the right size, you can even place it on your table and enjoy a barbecued meal straight off the grill. You just plug the unit in and voila! You can start grilling!

An electric BBQ grill usually uses the conduction method. This means that the electricity heats up the metal plate that in turn does the grilling. Another method would be the use of a ceramic plate burner, where heat is radiated into the food, thus cooking the food. A ceramic plate burner can cook the food faster since the metal plate can reach a higher temperature faster.

Electric Barbeque Grill Advantages:

  • The absence of dust emission. Unlike charcoal grills, you don’t have to dust off anything. You don’t also have to deal with the leftover coal bricks. All you need to do is clean the grilling plate.
  • No need for refills. As long as it’s connected to a power source, it will continue grilling. There’s no need to put in pieces of charcoal or refill with gas from time to time.
  • Electric grills are a healthier option. For one, you are able to get rid of more fat in the meat as compared to traditional grills. Also, the meat does not get burned. The meat is cooked more evenly. This is in contrast with gas or coal-powered grills, where you can’t help but have some charred parts of the meat.
  • Electric grills are more compact and portable. It will fit more easily in your kitchen countertop and can then be put away when it’s not in use. You can also easily pack it in the trunk of the car. However, a disadvantage you should note is that you may need to also bring in a long extension cord, particularly if you want to cook outdoors.
  • Better for the environment. The grill does not emit any harmful fumes or smoke that may pollute the environment.
  • You can use it at any weather. Whenever you’re in the mood for some barbecue, you can just take it out and grill.

Electric BBQ Grill Choosing Criteria

  • Type of the grill. There are open grills and clamshell grills. An open grill looks more like the traditional grill. Meanwhile, a clamshell grill cooks the food faster since it cooks food both from the top and the bottom.
  • Searing power. This refers to the grill’s ability to heat up the grill pan and cook the food.
  • Size of the grill. You should consider whether you plan to use the grill indoors and how much space you have for the grill. If you are fond of barbecue and always have guests around, then a larger grill would work better since it can cook more at the same time.
  • Ease in cleaning. Choose a unit where the grill is easily removable. A good choice will be Teflon-coated grills which allows meat and oil residue to slide off with just water, sponge or soap. Go for a grill that is also equipped with drip platters, drip channels and a cover (so as to minimize any sputtering oil).
  • Additional features such as a timer, bottom shelves to store cooking utensils, side work spaces, warmers and interchangeable cooking plates. It will also be handy to have push button ignition and a temperature setting panel that’s easy to use. You can also consider a rotisserie if you enjoy chicken barbecue.

Electric BBQ grills are an excellent way to relax and enjoy a “barbecue day” with family and friends.
