What To Chose: Electric Cookers or Gas Cookers?

Ever since man invented fire, he has come a long in trying to bring innovation in the way he prepares his meals and cookers of all styles have sprung up over the centuries. Today, one would be hard pressed to go into any home and not find a cooker of some form. Companies like general electric have become industry leaders in the creation and installation of cookers of all types and have been credited to installing these to millions of homes. There are many styles of cookers and they predominantly use electricity, coal or natural gas. There are outdoor barbecue cookers which use both but for the sake of this article, we will concentrate on looking at electric cookers and where they fare in comparison to their counterparts the natural gas cookers.

The choice between electric cookers or natural gas cookers is simply a matter of convenience. In the United States, electric cookers tend to be more prevalent in areas where the weather is warm while gas cookers dominate colder regions. This does not mean that you will not find electric cookers in colder regions or gas cookers in warm areas.

Electric cookers are also more prevalent in apartment homes and places like hotels while gas cookers tend to be used more in homes. This may be partly because of the gas mains being underground and therefore being more permanent as opposed to apartments which have a life span of about 15 years.

Electric cookers are very popular. Most apartments in the US come equipped with electric cookers which are already serviced and ready for use. Electric cookers are very easy to use and one of the greatest advantage that they have is that there is no need to use a match or any lighter of some sort. Gas cookers on the other hand require a match or a lighter of some sort to light them up. In the event that there is a power outage, and one does not know the whereabouts of a match box, then this can be quite an inconvenience.

Electric cookers also have a downside in the sense that they rely on the electric supply coming into the building. This obviously means that if there is a power outage as in the event of a storm or damage to the power lines, then the family owning the electric cooker cannot prepare meals and may have to seek other alternatives of getting hot food outside the home. This also applies where the family has not paid their electric bill.

The electric cooker stove is very easy to operate. The instructions are self-explanatory and one need not spend a whole deal of time trying to learn how it works. Most cookers come with 4 stove coils and an oven. These are operated via knobs that have numbers and letters for easy understanding. Because the oven is integrated into the cooker, one can cook and bake at the same time. The knobs are also set far from the edge of the cooker to prevent access by children.
