Why Buy Electric Range Cookers?
We have come a long way since medieval times when natural fuel was used for heating and cooking. Indeed this is still common practice in some less developed parts of the world. But electric range cookers are possibly one of the greatest kitchen inventions of all time.
These days, in the United States, electric and gas cookers are the most popular; coal is used but it is less common. Gas cookers are usually used in houses, whereas electric ones are generally used in apartments and condominiums. This is not necessarily the case in other parts of the world, where portable gas stoves are frequently used. These are fueled by bottled gas and the bottles can be taken to a supplier to be refilled when they run out. In the West, these stoves are used mostly for camping, picnics and the like, since they are easily carried around.
So, how do electric cookers work and why are they so popular? Let us take a look at the benefits of buying an electric range cooker.
- For a start, they are very versatile. They are good for all kinds of cooking and the temperature can be finely adjusted to what you exactly need to cook each individual dish. With four coils and an oven, you could even cook five different dishes, with each one requiring a different level of heat!
- The way in which they work is actually quite uncomplicated. The cooker is usually a single freestanding unit with four electrical coils embedded into the top, known as the stove. When you switch the cooker on, electrons are generated, which pass continuously through the electrical cable and hit a metallic plate. The resistance generated here means that heat is generated and passes through to the coil, which continues to heat up as this process continues. When it glows red it is ready to cook on. Of course the temperature can be adjusted to suit whatever is being prepared.
- Electric cookers usually come with an integral oven. This is usually situated directly under the cooking rings of the stove. The temperature in the oven is also adjustable; it basically works in the same way as the coils on the stove but has coils of different shapes and sizes to heat the air in the oven. The oven is at its most efficient when the door is closed and works wonderfully for baking and broiling.
- Electric cookers are an economical purchase and, since being based on very uncomplicated technology, they are relatively inexpensive to manufacture. They are also less of a fire hazard and some have a safety cut-off feature which is activated by contact with water or by something being left on the heat coils for too long.
The induction cooker is a ground breaking invention; it is far safer than the older types as the heating coil only gets hot when it makes contact with a surface such as a pan. This means that if someone touches the coil by accident, they will not be injured as they would have been by an older type of cooker.
